This particular article centres on Limerick, but it's worth reading as most parts of Ireland suffered the same types of severe problems. We tend to only think of the 1840s 'potatoe famine', but there were several food shortages, and potatoe failures which led to emigration, starvation, and buckets of other problems for our poor Irish ancestors.
